Dental Health Resolutions For A Healthy Smile.

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is likely to break or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. They are most commonly done after root canal treatment, or when a large filling wears out.

The larger the hole made by a cavity that has to be treated, the more likely a crown will be needed. Crowns ride over the weakened tooth, providing strength and protecting the tooth against breakage. A broken or cracked tooth is a far more serious matter and much more difficult to treat. Crowns prevent this, as well as making for a nice smile.

It takes two appointments to restore a tooth with a crown. In the first, any decay is removed from the tooth and it is shaped to accept the crown. Then an impression is made of the tooth for use in fabricating a crown. Between the two visits, the crown is made, usually of high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, all ceramic material, or gold.

During this time a temporary crown is worn. In the second visit, this temporary is removed. Then the permanent crown is adjusted as needed and then cemented in place.

1 Day Crowns

At most dental offices, a crown can mean multiple trips to the office, which can be inconvenient to the patient. With CEREC, we can finish the procedure from beginning to end in a single visit, eliminating the need for multiple trips.

The best part is that you leave with your definitive crown the same day. This eliminates messy impressions, wearing temporary crowns and taking more time out of your schedule. With the CEREC crown, our Doctors follow the same steps of removing the decay and shaping the tooth for a crown.

However, instead of taking an impression and having an outside lab fabricate the crown, we mill it right here in the office!

Permanent Bridges are used for filling the space created by a missing tooth. The bridge is formed to look like the missing tooth and takes its place in the mouth. The bridge is anchored to the two surrounding teeth for support, hence the name.

A bridge replaces the missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically. Bridge materials range from gold alloys to metal alloy to porcelain bonded to an all-ceramic design. The choice of material depends on requirements for strength, wear, and/or aesthetics. Missing teeth should be replaced as soon as possible for several reasons. Teeth surrounding the gap begin to shift inward, creating a series of problems.

Teeth are interdependent for support, as a result, they will begin to “fall” when one is removed or lost. This, in turn, creates a change in the bite in response to the pressure. Eventually, this will result in problems with the entire jaw (e.g. TMJ). Continued neglect will result in the loss of additional teeth and likely, gum disease.

At Home

This is the procedure of making teeth whiter, and therefore more attractive.

It involves having impressions taken from which laboratory fabricated custom vinyl trays are made. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn for about 30 minutes. The entire process takes 3-4 weeks of daily use. Three different strengths of gel may be used, however the higher the strength the greater the likelihood of reactions or tooth sensitivity.

The tray method is recommended for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and it may take several months of use to see significant color improvement. For maintenance of whitened teeth, the trays should be used every few months. It is important that the patient is up to date on their regular cleaning and checkup to ensure that any current plaque or staining is removed first.

In Office

Say hello to confidence that glows

Your smile is the way you greet the world. While you have many options for whitening your teeth, your dentist is your best resource for whitening treatments. Only dental professionals have access to the most powerful, professional-strength whitening and can ensure your treatment is safe and your results are outstanding.

Why you should ask your dentist about professional whitening

A whiter smile will also be a healthier smile

Your dental professional will know all about the health history of your teeth. So you’ll get a treatment recommendation that accounts for any unique needs you may have, including sensitivity issues or previous dental work such as veneers, fillings or caps.

You’ll make whiter teeth part of your regular care regimen

You visit your dental professional regularly for cleanings and checkups, so he or she can also ensure that your whitening procedures are regularly scheduled. This way, your dentist will know about your expectations for a healthy, white smile and recommend the necessary steps to achieve and maintain it.
